Changing Ringing Volume

This guide explains how to change your ringtone volume on an Android mobile phone.

  1. Make sure you're on the desktop, press the middle button (circle) at the bottom of the screen. Unlock if needed.
  2. Swipe up to reveal your app tray.
  3. Swipe up until you find "Settings", icons are sorted alphabetically.
  4. Once in settings, you're logging for "Sound and Vibration" or something similar. (Some phones will have this under a different name).
  5. Once in this section, you'll see a number of different volume sliders. The one you're looking for is the one labelled "Ring", which can sometimes be linked with "Ring and Notification".
  6. You must drag the bar to the desired volume. The device should play a second of the ringtone when you release your finger, to give an indication of the volume. Drag it repeatedly until it's at the desired volume.
  7. To set the ringtone itself, scroll down on this page and look for "Ringtone" item. Some devices will have 2, labelled SIM1 and SIM2. You should set both, although most phones will only be using SIM1.
  8. Clicking this entry will bring up a list of tones for you to select. The phone will start playing them when you select one, so select them in turn until you find an acceptable one. Some phones require you to save on accept the changes.
  9. Now that's done, press the home (circle) button again to close settings.

If the device isn't making any sounds or showing notifications, and a no-entry-like symbol is displayed in the top left, please see the "Using Do Not Disturb" guide.
