Windows Hello

Windows Hello allows you to unlock your Microsoft Surface using your face, a PIN or on some devices a fingerprint.  Once setup this will save you time and increase the security of your account, reducing the number of times you need to enter your password.

Setting up Windows Hello

When your device is ready you will be prompted to setup Windows Hello the next time you log in.  Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the setup.

You may be asked to re-authenticate to Microsoft 365 with your Multi Factor Authentication as part of the setup process.

The slideshow below shows the steps involved to setup the facial recognition and a PIN for your device.  Note that the PIN must be 6 numbers or more and can only be used on that device.

It will take around one hour before it can be used to unlock your device.  In the mean time you need to click on "Other Sign in Options" and then choose the key icon to use your username and password.

Signing in with Windows Hello

When you open your Surface device or return to it when it is locked you will see an icon at the top of the lock screen to indicate it is searching for your face.  Once it recognises you it will log you straight in.

Modifying or Manually setting up Windows Hello

To change your settings, modify your PIN or re-train the facial recognition you can use the Windows Settings App.

Step 1 - Click on the start button in the bottom left of windows and then the settings icon.

Step 2 - Click on Accounts

Step 3 - Click on Sign-in Options

Step 4 - Click on either Windows Hello Face or Windows Hello PIN

Don't See the Prompt to Setup Windows Hello?

Windows Hello currently only works on Windows devices with a compatible webcam, check that you are using a Microsoft Surface Tablet or Laptop in order for this to work.

If you still do not see the prompt, please email networkservices@badmintonschool.co.uk and we will make sure your device is correctly enrolled

Want to use a PIN on a normal computer?

Computers without a compatible webcam can still use Windows Hello with a PIN.  This PIN is unique to each computer and still increases the security of your account by reducing the number of times you enter your password throughout the day and speeds up your login.

If you would like to use a PIN on your desktop or office computer please let us know and we will enable the feature.
