Lower Sixth Scholarships

Listed below are the scholarships and awards that are offered for entry into the Sixth Form at Badminton School for September 2025. Applications are open to both external candidates who have completed the registration form (on the website) and current Badminton Year 11 girls. 

All candidates must sit the Badminton School entrance assessments as laid out below, plus the relevant scholarship assessment and have an interview with a member of the Senior Leadership Team. The scholarship application must be received at Badminton School by Wednesday 30 October 2024 along with the online registration (external candidates only).

Assessment papers and interviews for entry in September 2025 will be held at Badminton on Saturday 9 November 2024. Art, Drama and Sport practical assessments will take place on another day to be confirmed. Music Auditions will be agreed on an individual basis. 

Candidates may apply for only one scholarship or award unless applying for an Academic Scholarship when we will accept a second application in another category, only one will be awarded.

Academic Scholarship

 Academic Scholarship are aimed at students  who show a genuine interest in the academic side of School life and are prepared to be an academic role model to other pupils.   Sixth Form Academic Scholars will be affiliated to a particular subject and will be expected to act as an ambassador for that subject under the direction of the Head of Department. 

All candidates are required to take the following assessments:

  • Scholarship Subject Paper of choice 1
  • Scholarship Subject Paper of choice 2
  • Interview with a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Art Scholarship

 Art Scholarships  are  awarded  to students  with a talent in the creative arts and will be expected to make a significant contribution to the life of the Art Department.   

Candidates are required to take the following assessments:

  • Art Practical Assessment
  • Present a Portfolio of their work
  • Interview with the Head of Art 

Please note that Art Scholars MUST take one of the following subjects in the Sixth Form:  A Level Art; A Level Photography;  A Level  History of Art; AS Graphics. 

As candidates will take a practical Art assessment, it must be taken at the School.

Music Scholarship

 Music Scholarship are awarded to students  who are passionate about  music and work to ensure it plays a key role in the life of the school. Candidates are expected to have achieved at least Grade 7 standard in their first instrument.

Candidates are required to take the following assessments:

  • Music Audition in the candidate's  first study instrument ( or voice)  as well as a chosen second study if applicable. The audition should consist of two contrasting pieces on the first study instrument, and one piece on the second study. Candidates should state which pieces of music they will be performing on the application form, and should provide piano parts in advance if accompaniment is required.
  • An interview with the Director of Music 

Auditions and interviews can be arranged on line for overseas candidates.

Drama Scholarship

A Drama Scholar will have a passion for theatre and all types of performance. They will have a strong interest in performance and will be expected to take part in the School productions. Scholars will also show an interest in watching theatre productions and take part in theatre trips where appropriate. Scholars should show keen interest in becoming fully involved in the life of the Drama Department.

Candidates are required to take the following assessments:

  • Perform two contrasting monologues, both from published plays of the candidates choice. The pieces will need to demonstrate a difference in characters or theatre styles. Each monologue should last no longer than two minutes and should be performed off-book with a copy provided for the audition.
  • An interview with the Head of Drama about the candidate's drama experiences.

Auditions and interviews can be arranged online for overseas candidates.

Sport Scholarship

Badminton values sport as an important part of its holistic education and is keen to encourage those with specific interest and skill in this field. Candidates will demonstrate a high level of performance in their chosen sport or multitude of sports, with potential to excel/progress within the National Governing Body’s framework of player development.

Candidates are required to take the following assessments:

  • Sport Assessment of Skills including core physical abilities (e.g. strength, speed, power, agility), as well as generic and sports specific skills (through drills and small sided games).
  • Interview
  • School Reference
  • Report(s) on the ability and attitude of the candidate from the candidate’s current PE teachers and/or coaches
  • In addition to the above, external applicants will also need to sit scholarship subject paper of choice 1 and scholarship subject paper of choice 2, as well as an online test (verbal and non-verbal reasoning)

As candidates will undertake an assessment of skills, the assessment must be taken at the School.

Sixth Form Day Girl Award 

This Award is for external candidates who are applying from a state secondary schools. The Award will be given to students whose application and entrance assessments indicate that they would benefit from the opportunities at Badminton. A Bursary application can be submitted separately, please request a form.
