Settling in to Sanderson
As we have not had any trips this week, the girls have been able to fully settle into house, their school routine and adventure out to their local boundaries. Some of the girls have written a paragraph about the start of school and how they have found the new experience:
Boarding life in Sanderson is a whole new experience for me. I have never been so far away from my parents, and I was really afraid I would get homesick. Fortunately, having friends with me in the same house really helped me a lot. All the people in Sanderson are just really helpful and gave me help and support whenever I needed it. I made a great decision choosing to board in Sanderson. The advantage of boarding in Badminton is that we could always travel to school in such a short time. I never worried about being late again. Despite living in school, I still managed to get lost in school since the classrooms were all over the school and it took me some time to figure out where I’m supposed to go. School life is absolutely amazing, especially when everyone is gathered in the common room and we can chit chat together. Tea time is the highlight of my day. The snacks provided were so good and it brought some sweetness to my hectic day. The Badminton family has brought me so much joy in a span of one week, and I am looking forward to my upcoming years in Badminton School. - Katie Lau, Year 10
I am a Year 10 Boarder from Hong Kong who recently joined Badminton. Before coming to Badminton, I was really worried that I wouldn’t be able to make new friends because most people already know each other from Year 9 and have their own friendship groups. Turns out that isn’t something I should have wasted my time brooding about, since arriving at Sanderson everyone has been very welcoming, supportive and friendly. Having to adapt to this completely new environment and being 6000 miles away from home definitely isn’t easy. Coming from a relatively small school even trying to find my way to classrooms between lessons is a huge struggle because different classes takes place in different buildings; but every time I stand in the corridors looking confused and lost someone always approaches me and leads me to the classroom I’m supposed to be in. Eating meals in the dining hall and chilling in the common room are some of the best times to socialise with other people here, students always takes the initiative to come sit next to you and chat with you to make sure you’re coping alright. On my first weekend here at Badminton, some of the existing boarders brought me to a small town near the school called Henleaze, which was very enjoyable because we got to “escape” from reality for a while and got to know each other a lot better. - Chloe Lam, Year 10
