Key Information for Teachers
- Pupils in Years 7, 10 and L6 MUST use their provided device in lessons as opposed to a personal device. Pupils should use it as directed by their teacher and are encouraged to use it for prep. All Years 8, 9, 11 and U6 do not have compulsory provided devices but should use the school device if opted-in.
- Pupils do not have to use devices in every lesson; a balanced and nuanced approach should be used depending on pupil ages, type of lesson and learning preference.
- Where pupils are writing on paper, they should be encouraged to scan finished work and upload into their Class Notebook. This is so all work is in one place, but they can also continue to practise good handwriting, as required by formal exams.
- Personal devices are allowed but only to augment the provided device where required. E.g. in art, pupils may want to use an iPad pro for drawing.
- All devices, both provided and BYOD, should be treated like a piece of uniform. If a pupil forgets their device it or it is not ready for the lesson and impacts on the lesson, then staff should log a sanction accordingly. Pens only charge if they have been tucked in the keyboard.
- To manage school-owned pupil devices in your lesson, all teachers have access to “Senso” via a desktop shortcut. Sign-in via Microsoft 365, select your team and go to “Thumbnail View” to see pupils’ screens live. More guides and training will be provided as soon as possible for this new tool.
- Pupils will be charged for lost pens, keyboards and chargers. Please remind them to keep their pens safe in the keyboard at the end of the lesson and not forget any chargers. All pens, keyboards and chargers are name labelled.
- If you need the focus of your class or there is no need for devices, consider a ‘lids shut’ rule to avoid distractions.
- If pupils are digitally inking, they should have the keyboard detached or tucked underneath and the device flat on the desk.
- If using the device as a “Screen” just to view what is on the board more easily, pupils should detach the keyboard to avoid distractions
