Editing Documents
All files stored in Teams and OneDrive can be edited directly online, or using the full version of office. Make sure you understand the limitations of each method so you can work efficiently.
Make sure you install the latest version of Office 365 for the best experience
Edit within Teams or in your Browser
This is the default action whenever you click on a file in Teams or OneDrive. You will see a web based version of Word, Excel or Powerpoint. This is great for making quick changes or just viewing files but does not have the full functionality of Office.
Open in Desktop App
For those times when the web based version of office just doesn't cut it, click on Open in Desktop App. This will open the file in whatever version of office you have installed on your local computer. From there you can access all the latest functionality.
As long as you have the latest version of Office:
- Changes will be saved directly back to Teams or OneDrive
- All editing will autosave in real time.
- You will see who else is editing and continue to collaberate on the same document at the same time.
Open a file from Teams in a new window
Sometimes it is useful to be able to multitask in Teams. Click on the three dots in the top right of any open document and click on Open in Browser. This will open a new window with just that document, allowing you to continue using teams.
